The warmer weather may make it tempting to keep your food as fresh as possible but putting bread, tomatoes and even cake in the fridge is a bad idea, according to experts.

天气越来越热，人们都想尽量让食物保持新鲜。但是专家称，将面包、西红柿甚至蛋糕放在冰箱里并不是个好主意。

Not only does it fail to make some foods last longer but can even ruin the taste of others such as coffee, the new guide warns.

近期英国好管家研究所发布的一份食物指南提醒，将这些食物储存在冰箱里不仅不能达到保鲜的效果，甚至还会破坏冰箱里其他食物饮料的口感，比如说咖啡。

And if particularly pungent items such as onions are stored there, it can affect other items already in the fridge, says the advice from the Good Housekeeping Institute.

据好管家研究所建议，若将洋葱等具有刺激性气味的食物放在冰箱，其气味可能影响冰箱中其他的食物。

In the guide called 'Nine Things You Shouldn't Store In The Fridge' the GHI warns that soaring temperatures can lead to fridges overstocked with food and drink as we fret about it going off in the heat.

这份指南名为“九种不宜在冰箱储存的食物”，好管家研究所警告说，高温天气下，人们担心食物和饮料变质，会把它们都堆在家里的冰箱里，让冰箱塞得满满当当。

It explains: 'During the summer our fridges are crammed full of extra goodies but there are some shelf hoggers than need to be evicted.

指南里解释道：“夏季冰箱里总是满满的，但其实有一些多余的食物饮料完全可以拿出来。

'Or worse, are there foods that you keep in the fridge that would be far better, and last far longer, at room temperature?'

So what are the nine things that should not be kept there and why? Here's the rundown:

到底哪九种食物饮料不宜保存在冰箱里？这背后的原因又是什么呢？

1. Bread

面包

It dries and goes stale faster in an airless fridge than in the bread bin. To keep it fresher for longer, use a bread bag in a cool, dry place.

面包在不通风的冰箱里会失水变质的更快。将面包装在面包盒或者面包袋里，放在阴凉干燥处，可以保鲜更久。

2. Onions

洋葱

Ditch the salad draw and pick a dry, ventilated area and keep it dark to avoid them sprouting. In the fridge, their aroma can taint other foods.

将洋葱置于干燥通风处，选择一个黑暗的环境以避免洋葱发芽。若把洋葱放在冰箱蔬菜层中，它的气味会污染其他食物。

3. Garlic

Also needs to be kept in a dry, ventilated area to last longer. The fridge does nothing to help it stay fresh for longer.

4. Avocados

Best kept in open brown bags if you don't want them to ripen too quickly. If you do want to speed up the ripening process, put them in the fruit bowl next to a banana instead.

不想让鳄梨太快熟透的话，最好把它放在开口的棕色袋子里。如果想要催熟鳄梨的话，可以把它们和香蕉放在一个水果盘里。

5. Tomatoes

The colder they get, the more of their natural taste they tend to lose. The best tasting tomatoes are those kept at room temperature.

6. Honey

Literally the only food that never goes off, so there is absolutely no need for it to go anywhere except in the food cupboard.

7. Cake

With the exception of those made with real cream, almost all others will last for just as long in an airtight container.

8. Melons

Uncut, the fruits do not need to take up all that space on a fridge shelf. Once it's been cut, wrap it in clingfilm and put it in the fridge - but not before.

9. Coffee

咖啡

Although some foodies insist on having it stored cold, coffee actually absorbs the smells of other foods around it in the fridge. Best kept in an airtight container instead.
